Federal Reserve orders new rafters to be placed at top of headquarters building before Congress raises the debt ceiling

Washington, DC - Government construction contractors were busy all morning ensuring that the Federal Reserve Building in downtown Washington, DC was ready for the debt ceiling to be raised again. After raising the debt ceiling 78 times since 1960, the Federal Reserve Building now eclipses the White House, hotels, and other businesses near the area of Lafayette Square.

“Boys, we might have to apply more support beams now that the Fed building is 78 stories tall,” said the lead contractor for the project, which is now 8 weeks overdue and millions of dollars over budget.

“Jeez boss, how many times do you reckon we can keep raising that there debt ceiling?” asked a lower level contractor. “I don’t know, but some say that the Federal Reserve could someday reach the stars… or it’ll all come crashing down when China comes to collect their debts.”
