WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Barack Obama maintained his noble tradition of selective principles this weekend by refusing to endorse New York mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani, choosing instead to campaign for a completely different Democrat in another state.
“President Obama doesn’t endorse in local races,” said former aide Patrick Gaspard, carefully ignoring the 14 times Obama has done exactly that.
Political observers noted that Obama’s phone call to Mamdani was still considered “a huge boost,” though sources confirmed the call lasted 37 seconds and mostly involved Obama pretending to tunnel into bad reception.
“I just wanted to say—[static noise]—keep hope alive, or whatever,” Obama reportedly said before disconnecting.
Republican strategist Rob Ryan called the move “a rare moment of wisdom” from the former president, while Democrats praised Obama for showing restraint “in the face of ideological combustion.”
At publishing time, Obama’s team clarified that he would endorse Mamdani — just as soon as Mamdani renounces socialism, capitalism, and reality altogether.
