Celebration Of Inevitable Defeat Erupts In Swing District
PALM SHORES, FL – Shouts of joy and the faint scent of patchouli filled the air Tuesday night as local Democrats celebrated the primary victory of community organizer Maximillian “Max” Power, a Democratic Socialist set to face a popular three-term incumbent in a district that hasn't elected a Democrat since it was swampland.
Supporters at Power's victory party, held in the back room of a collectively-owned bookstore, lauded the historic win as a triumph of ideas over electability. “This isn’t about winning in November,” explained campaign manager Willow Everdeen, 24, while adjusting her horn-rimmed glasses. “It’s about sending a message. And that message is: we have a candidate who agrees with us on everything, and we’d rather lose with him than win with someone who appeals to a broader base of voters.”
Power, 29, secured the nomination with a commanding 38% of the vote in a crowded eight-person primary.
