Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly granted the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) new authority over USAID by appointing a senior DOGE official to serve as the Chief Operating Officer.
In an email sent to the department staff, the Trump-appointed Deputy Director of USAID, Pete Marocco, announced that Jeremy Lewin, a senior official from Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, will replace Marocco as the Deputy Director “effective immediately,” according to the Associated Press.
Tammy Bruce, the spokeswoman for the State Department, told reporters on Wednesday that the shift in USAID’s management plays “an indispensable role in aligning all U.S. government foreign assistance with the president’s priorities.”
